Library Board Meeting - 3/2/2022

The Library Board met on 3/2 to discuss programming and building updates. Additionally, our library won the Achievement in Library Excellence award from the Texas Municipal Library Directors Association. A huge shoutout to our staff for that.

The Library Board also voted to recommend eliminating Library Fines. There is a large body of research that states fines are a hinderance to low-income households borrowing books or using the library. Though Library Fines brought in $134,000 in revenue in 2016, that number has steadily decreased over the years to the point where they only bring in about $34,000. This barely covers the cost of administering the fine program itself. Additionally, most large cities in the DFW area have eliminated fines.

This is a change for equity that I was happy to see our Library Board implement.
